Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organised two Mobilization and Awareness programmes for Promotion of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) at village Mushkabad and village Khirnian (Block Samrala, District Ludhiana). A total of 40 dairy farmers participated in these programmes. Dr Rajesh Kasrija, Principal Investigator, highlighted that FPO is one of the major initiatives of Government of India which help the farmers to organize themselves into a group, provides a business outlook to the farming system and links farmers with the market so as to improve their socio-economic level. FPO will help to eliminate the chain of intermediaries in marketing of milk and input procurement for dairy farming. FPO can guarantee a higher farm income for farmers by evaluating demand and then buying inputs in bulk. Dr. Narender Kumar Chandla, Co-Principalinvestigator, discussed the importance of value addition of milk in various products so that small farmers can earn maximum profit from their produce.

Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education informed that these programmes have been conducted under a research project entitled “Promotion of Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) on dairy Farming in district Ludhiana” funded by National bank for Agriculture and Rural development (NABARD). It is pertinent to mention that sooner a FPO on dairy farming will be operational in block Samrala, where after becoming the member, the dairy farmer will have an easy access to the market and farmer can fetch maximum and timely price of their produce. S. Davinder Singh from Village Mushkabad supported the smooth conduct of these programmes.
