On the eve of 18th Parthenium awareness week (16th – 22nd August, 2023) Agricultural Polytechnic, Agriculture Research Station and DAATTC, Tornala with collaboration of AICRP on weed management, Hyderabad has conducted Parthenium eradication programme on 21.08.2023 within the premises. Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal, APT, Tornala, hosted the programme and provided brief remarks about Parthenium weed which has multiple negative impacts on human and animal health as well as crop yield. Dr. T. Ram Prasad, Principal Scientist (Soil Science) & Head, AICRP on Weed Management, PJTSAU highlighted about Parthenium weed and stated that it is an exotic weed belongs to North America, which is a very dangerous weed in the field and has multiple ill impacts on human health causing Asthma, Skin allergy, respiratory problems etc., further accentuated about ways and means of management of Parthenium weed including biological control with Zygograma bicolorata, pest on Parthenium. All the teaching and non-teaching staff of APT, Tornala, staff of ARS and staff of DAATTC, Tornala along with students actively participated in the programme by manually uprooting all the Parthenium plants in the surrounding of college building and hostels. On this event essay writing competition on “Parthenium – its menace and management” was conducted to students and prizes were distributed to the winners. The program was formally ended with vote of thanks by Sri. L.Raja, Assistant Professor and OIAM. All the Scientists of ARS and DAATCC participated in programme.
