About the Institute

The ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR RCER) came into existence in 2001 at Patna (Bihar). ICAR RCER has four divisions, viz. Division of Crop Research, Division of Land and Water Management, Division of Livestock and Fishery Management, and Division of Socioeconomics & Extension at the headquarter besides Farming System Research Centre for Hill and Plateau Region at Ranchi and Research Center on Makhana at Darbhanga. The institute is also having two Krishi Vigyan Kendras one each at Buxar (Bihar) and Ramgarh (Jharkhand). The institute is dedicated to innovating and developing low-cost, efficient, and sustainable technologies to suit the specific requirements of agricultural development in the eastern region.

About the Karyashala Scheme

KARYASHALA is an effort by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India via Accelerate Vigyan to improve the research productivity of promising PG and Ph.D. students from universities and colleges through high-end workshops on specific themes. This program aims to provide opportunities to acquire specialized research skills.

About the Workshop

The workshop is proposed for one-week duration for twenty-five M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. This high-end workshop cum training is aimed at capacity building of postgraduate students in agricultural science for improving their efficiency and knowledge in basic and applied research. The exposure of students to advanced instrumentation for measuring greenhouse gas emissions, carbon fractionation, agarose gel electrophoresis, PCR, and RT-PCR will strengthen their skills and knowledge in using sophisticated equipment for their research work. The proposed workshop will enhance their skills on the importance of soil health assessment, greenhouse gas emission, and molecular techniques in microbial diversity analysis. This program comprises theory and hands-on sessions in the use and applications of instruments for data analysis to have high-quality research output.

Number and Eligibility of Participants

Twenty-five participants pursuing either M.Sc. or Ph.D. programmes from AICTE approved Central and State Universities in any field of agricultural sciences (including any other discipline of biological sciences) will be selected for the training on the basis of academic performance. The selection of the candidate will be purely on a merit basis.

Boarding and Lodging

The participants will be provided travel, lodging, and boarding as per SERB guidelines. Participants are entitled to train fares on both sides and local conveyance from the railway station to ICAR RCER. Accommodation will be provided in the ICAR RCER guest house by the organizers on room sharing basis. Participants are requested not to bring family members with them as the Institute has limited accommodation facilities.
