The Annual Action Plan for KVKs of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry was jointly organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore and ICAR – Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone X, Hyderabad from 29.03.2023 to 31.03.2023 to formulate annual action plan and implemented mechanism. The KVK scientists of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are participated in the workshop. During the workshop, the KVK scientists along with the Director, ATARI Zone X, DEEs of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University and experts from various field of agriculture, horticulture and animal sciences discussed in eight themes and formulated annual action plan for each KVKs of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Dr.V.Geethalakshmi and requested the KVK scientists to focus on action plan based on the recent issues in the farm level with due attention and important stakeholder of farmers and connecting with scientific technology. She emphasized that TNAU is working to address issues of farmers at agro climatic zone wise regarding climate mitigation. In addition, she highlighted that farming system to incorporate all live hood option on various agro Climatic zones of Tamil Nadu. It is planned to link the Undergraduate student with each farmer for continuous and pragmatic field learning.

Dr.Shaik N. Meera, Director, ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) in his key note address mentioned that this year is KVKs Golden Jubilee Year (1974 – 2023). The first KVK was started at Puducherry during 1974 under auspicious administrative control of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. He has informed the house about Ten important commandments to be followed for effective technology dissemination among the farming community by the KVKs scientists. He narrated the importance of Digital Extension, IoT, Value chain, usage of Artificial intelligence Drone application in Agriculture and also value addition for millet and its products. Finally, he requested to lookout for the uniqueness in every activity, products, technologies to improve the profitability rather than productivity alone. Effective monitoring and evaluation is needed for all the mandated and innovative activities of KVKs.

Dr.M.Rajakumar, Director of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha Fisheries University, Nagapattinam indicated that fishery is sun raising sector which will achieve the doubling farmers income by 2025. Dr. Apparao, Director of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences insisted that Intensive Integrated Farming System along with Crop and Animal Husbandry enterprises. Besides, Innovative technologies in Animal Husbandry and livestock sector needs enhancement with focused attention during 2023-2024.

Earlier, Dr.P.P. Murugan, Director, Directorate of Extension Education, TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering with a special mentions that in all TNAU KVKs equipped 100 percent manpower. Besides KVK is a technology education institute functioning at district level for full filling the needs of multiple stakeholders.

The Director, ATARI Zone X presented the role of KVKs scientist in upliftment of farming community and how to plan effective and problem oriented action plan for next year. On second and third day, the Programme coordinators and the nodal scientists were presented the compiled action plan of various KVKs in eight themes viz., Varietal assessment and demonstrations of agricultural and horticultural crops, Crop production and management, Plant protection, Farm mechanization, Animal sciences and Forestry, Extension and Home science.

Dr. N. Anandaraja, Professor and Head, Training Division, DoEE, TNAU, Coimbatore proposed the vote of thanks, an informed that with the support of ICAR-ATARI, and TNAU the proposed Annual Action Plan will be achievable as a ‘team task’. The valedictory function was held on 31.03.2023 with the rapporteurs report and key note address of Director, ATARI, Zone X, Hyderabad.
