The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, is currently hosting a nine-day training workshop from February 1-9, 2024, focusing on “Cloning in E. coli and Agrobacterium for RNAi and CRISPR in wheat.” This comprehensive workshop is part of a jointly funded project by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), New Delhi, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The hands-on workshop is co-organized by Dr. Kulvinder S. Gill, an alumnus of PAU, Professor, and Project Director from Washington State University, USA, and Dr. Johar Singh, Principal Wheat Breeder and Project Principal Investigator from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at PAU. Approximately 50 participants, including PhD students, research associates, and young scientists from various collaborating universities and PAU, are actively engaged in both theoretical discussions and practical training.

During the inaugural function, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of PAU, commended the long-standing collaboration with Dr. Kulvinder S. Gill, emphasizing his significant contribution to the institution over the past decade. Dr. Gosal delivered a motivational speech, shedding light on the critical role of biotechnological tools in crop improvement.

Dr. Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research at PAU, highlighted the university’s historical contributions and shared insights into the collaborative project’s research outcomes. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Kulvinder Gill for his continuous research collaborations and for conducting hands-on training workshops for over a decade.

Dr. Virinder Singh Sohu, Head of the Department of Plant Breeding, informed that several training workshops have already been conducted under the project’s umbrella. He extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and provided an overview of the program.

Dr. Johar Singh, the Project Investigator, concluded the inaugural function with a vote of thanks.
