A total of 4.5 million green tiger shrimp seeds (PL 20) were released into Palk Bay at  Villondi in a sea ranching initiative by Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) on 27th July, 2023. This was part of the project entitled “Sea ranching of Green tiger shrimp (Penaeus semisulcatus) Post Larvae (PL) in Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu” funded by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India under the Central Sector Scheme component of the PMMSY. The event was presided by Dr. K. Vinod, Head of the Centre. The shrimp seeds were released by Shri Abdul Kadhar Jailani, Assistant Director of Fisheries & Fishermen Welfare, Rameswaram and Shri M. Sankar, Overseer in the presence of Dr. G. Tamilmani, Principal Investigator of the project and the staff of the Mandapam Regional Centre. A total of 62.74 million green tiger shrimp seeds have been released so far in Palk Bay and the Gulf of Mannar since the initiation of the Project (February, 2022).
