Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana, consistently conducts skill development courses to promote alternative livelihoods. Recently, a ten-day vocational training on dairy farming was held at KVK premises from December 6th to 19th, 2023. This initiative attracted 26 participants, including farmers, farm women, and rural youth, aiming to bolster their knowledge and expertise in dairy farming.

Dr Maninder Singh Bons, the Associate Director (Training), highlighted KVK’s commitment to serving the farming community and encouraged attendees to explore supplementary occupations to boost their income.

Dr Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science) at KVK, Hoshiarpur, delivered lectures and practical demonstrations covering various facets of dairy farming. This encompassed insights into cow and buffalo breeds, animal care and management, hygienic milk production, nurturing newborn calves, and the formulation of cattle feed.

Dr Karnail Singh, a Veterinary Officer from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Hoshiarpur, offered valuable insights into disease prevention and control in dairy animals while also elaborating on the department’s schemes aimed at uplifting and supporting dairy farmers.
