ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut celebrated its 34th Foundation Day on 01 April, 2023. The programme was celebrated in Hybrid mode (physically and virtually both) in which, all the employees of ICAR-IIFSR, PIs and Co-PIs from different AICRP-IFS, AINP-OF Centre’s; Director/representatives from different NRM Institutes and representatives from ICAR-CPRIC, Modipuram, ICAR-CIRC, Meerut, SVPUA&T, Meerut; farmers, FPOs, SHGs, and agri-preneurs took part during different events. The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest of the function Hon., Dr. Panjab Singh, Chancellor, RLBCAU, Jhansi and Ex. Secretary DARE and DG, ICAR. In his foundation day lecture, he congratulated the employees of the Institute and emphasized that, ICAR-IIFSR is the only institute in the country which integrates all the technologies given by NARS Institutes in the form of integrated farming system (IFS)/ integrated organic farming system (IOFS), models with aim of solving food, nutrition and livelihood security of farmers. It also takes care of environment and mitigates the ill effect of changing climate. He also suggested the scientists to develop the farming system models as per the needs of the farming community.
Dr. S.K. Chaudhary, the Chairman of the function and DDG (NRM) at ICAR, New Delhi, delivered a virtual address to the gathering. He expressed his admiration for ICARIIFSR’s glorious journey which started with simple fertilizer trials in 1952, culminating in its status as a full-fledged Institute in 2014. Its focus on holistic research on integrated farming systems is worth appreciating. Dr. Chaudhary emphasized the importance of a well-planned, progressive crop plan and business models in integrated/organic farming to ensure the economic of the farming community.
