ICAR-Central Institute of Post–Harvest Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana, unveiled the “Visible ‘Light Insect Trap’ at the 95th Annual General Meeting of the ICAR society, chaired by The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri. Arjun Munda.

ICAR-CIPHET unveils ‘Visible Light Insect Trap’ at the 95th Annual General Meeting of ICAR Society Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State Science and Technology (IC), Shri Kailash Chaudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri. Dharmpal Singh, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri. Mhathung Yanthan, Minister of Agriculture, Govt of Nagaland, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), Shri. Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary (DARE) and Secretary (ICAR), Ms. Alka Nangia Arora, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Financial Advisor (ICAR), General Body members of ICAR Societies, senior officials of ICAR Headquarters & Directors of ICAR Institutes, were also present in the programme.

The light was developed by the team comprising Dr. Guru P.N., Dr. D Saha, Er. Yogesh Kalnar, Virinder Kumar, Dr. Manju Bala, Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale of ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana. The trap has been designed to trap beetles and moths in commodity storage, and operates within visible light, eliminating radiation hazards. Its dual insect attraction mechanism and installation flexibility make it economically feasible and a vital tool for pest management strategies.
