An awareness campaign implemented in Amritsar district to promote the export quality basmati production through transfer of recommended technology as directed by Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. As a part of it, a field day on Quality Basmati Production for export promotion was organized by Farm Advisory Service Centre, KVK, Amritsar of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on 31.08.2023 at village Khiala in district Amritsar. Dr Jatinder Singh, Chief Agricultural Officer, Amritsar of Department of Agricultural and Farmers Welfare, Punjab graced the occasion to encourage the farmers to adopt recommended technologies for higher economic benefits. He also educates the farmers regarding banned pesticides on the basmati crop. Dr Gurmeet Singh, entomology specialist motivated the farmers to adopt eco-friendly technologies of neem-based pesticides as well as tricho cards for the control of stem borer and leaf folder in the basmati crop. Dr Aastha elaborated the safe and judicious use of plant protection technology to control the diseases in the crop. She also highlighted that farmers can stop spraying pesticides 25days before harvesting of basmati crop to avoid the harmful residues. Dr Baljinder Singh Sandhu, Agricultural Officer of the state Department of Agricultural and Farmers Welfare in the area educated the farmers about quality control measures implemented in the district for best quality basmati production. Dr Ajay Kumar, highlighted the activates of KVK, Amritsar for the agricultural development. Dr Kanwarpal Singh upgraded the knowledge of the farmers regarding management of dairy animals during hot/ humid season and formulation of balanced feed for dairy animals. Dr Narinderpal Singh, District Extension Specialist (Senior Most) discussed the marketing issues of basmati crop and encouraged the farmers to adopt cooperative farming and farmer producers’ organizations for better income generation. He also encouraged the farmers to participate in the Kisan Melas. Officials of Punjab Agro corporation & line departments, more than hundred basmati growers of the district, other stake holders etc were benefited through the field day with the help of demonstration, expert guidance, exhibition and farmers training camp.
