Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Fatehgarh Sahib, in collaboration with the Department of Plant Pathology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, successfully organized a Farmer-Scientist Interaction programme on January 24, 2024, under the leadership of Dr Vipan Kumar Rampal, Associate Director (Training). The event was attended by 45 farmers from various villages and aimed at addressing the challenges posed by diseases like Yellow Rust, Karnal Bunt in Wheat, and Late Blight in Potato and Tomato during the Rabi season.

Dr Amarjit Singh, Principal Extension Scientist from the Department of Plant Pathology at PAU, delivered an insightful lecture on disease management for Rabi crops. His presentation covered the symptoms and identification of wheat diseases such as Yellow Rust, Karnal Bunt, and Powdery Mildew. Dr Singh stressed the importance of timely management to prevent significant crop losses. Additionally, he provided valuable information on precautionary measures and management techniques for Late Blight in potatoes and tomatoes, including a live demonstration of a web-based Decision Support System for effective disease management in potatoes.

Dr Vijay Kumar, Principal Entomologist from the Department of Entomology, discussed insect pests affecting wheat, gobhi, sarson, potato, and tomato. He urged farmers to adopt need-based insecticidal sprays based on economic threshold levels for different insects.

Dr Arvind Preet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), shared insights on managing fruit crops during the winter season.

The programme concluded with an informative discussion between farmers and scientists, addressing various queries posed by the farmers. Mrs Reet Verma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), expressed gratitude to all participants and experts, bringing the event to a successful close.
