ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organized a 7- days capacity building programme on “Inland Fisheries Management” for the fish farmers of Munger district, Bihar during 16- 22nd May, 2023. A total of 30 (thirty) farmers from Munger district participated in the training programme. The training was conducted to appraise the technical know-how, and sustainable management strategy for enhancement of fish yield in the inland waters. In the inauguration programme Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI welcomed the participants and encouraged them to develop their knowledge through the training. Dr. Das emphasized to utilize the underused water resources including backyard ponds through fisheries in a scientific way that offers ample scope for livelihood improvement. The focus of the training programme was on various topics viz. pond construction and management, induced breeding and hatchery management, composite fish culture including fish disease management, broodstock management, integrated fish farming, fish feed management and ornamental fish farming and the economic evaluation of fisheries enterprises followed by hands-on training on field water quality parameters, fish feed preparation and management. In addition, field trips were organized as part of the training programme to East Kolkata Wetland and ornamental fish market, Kolkata, ICAR-CIFA field station, Kalyani, and a fish farm visit to Kalna, Kolkata. Besides, the trainess were given an orientation at the Ornamental fish culture unit and biofloc functional unit at the HQ.

The valedictory session was held on 22nd May, 2023, where Dr. Srikanta Samanta, Head, REF, Dr. M. A. Hassan, Head, FEM and Dr. Malay Naskar, i/c Head, FRAI, attended. Farmers expressed their great satisfaction with this training programme. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. A. Roy, Mr. Ganesh Chandra, Mr. Pranab Gogoi and Mr. Sujit Chowdhury under the guidance Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI.
