ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal organized an ICAR sponsored 10 days CAFT training on “Artificial intelligence and advances in ICT for smart agriculture and food processing” during February 23 to March 04, 2023. The training programme was attended by 14 participants from different ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities and KVKs from 06 states of India. The inaugural function of the training programme was held on February 23, 2023. Dr. N. C.Patel, Former Vice Chancellor, Anand Agricultural University, Gujarat graced the inaugural function as a Chief Guest and Dr. C. R. Mehta, Director, ICAR-CIAE chaired the function. Dr. Patel in his address highlighted the importance of knowledge and capacity building in the area of AI and ICT. Dr. Mehta highlighted the importance of learning the basics in the theme area of training and also the need of research on AI and ICT for possible applications in agriculture and food processing.

The objective of the training was to make the participants aware about the artificial intelligence and advances in ICT technologies along with their applications. The major topics covered during the training were machine learning, Python/R and MATLAB programming, deep learning, image processing, sensors and automation, data storage and management. Some food processing technologies developed at ICAR-CIAE Bhopal were demonstrated to the participants. An industrial exposure visit to M/s Bio-nutrient India Pvt., Ltd., Bhopal was also arranged during the training programme. The valedictory function of training programme was held on March 3, 2023. Dr. R. T. Patil, Former Director, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana was the Chief Guest and Dr. C. R. Mehta, Director, ICAR-CIAE chaired the session. Dr. Patil shared his views on the AI and advanced ICT with some practical and live examples like Chat GPT. Dr. Mehta congratulated the participants and training coordinators on successful completion of training programme and also urged the trainees to apply the knowledge which they gained, in their research activities at the respective organizations. Dr. S. K. Giri, Head APPD and CAFT Director narrated the overview and importance of CAFT training which was approved by HRD Division, ICAR New Delhi. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Karan Singh, Dr. Dilip Pawar and Er. A. Subeesh.
