Wide spread occurrence of hailstorm and unseasonal rainfall have been reported in different parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada during third week of March, 2023. ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur has issued following measures to overcome the damages caused by hailstorm.

  1. Shedding of leaves, branches and barks due to hailstorm might expose the plants to various diseases. Remove broken branches and twigs with the help of secateurs. Apply Bordeaux paste on affected parts of the plant. To prepare Bordeaux paste (1:1:10), take 1 kg of each Copper sulphate and lime separately. Soak it in 5 litres of water overnight in two separate plastic containers, stir thoroughly with a wooden stick so that Copper sulphate and lime are dissolved completely. Take third separate plastic container and pour Copper sulphate and lime solution and mix thoroughly and apply on affected parts (Detailed video can be seen at ICAR-CCRI website: https://ccri.icar.gov.in/ccringp/)
  2. For controlling fruit drop due to hailstorm in mandarin/sweet orange, spray 1.5 g 2,4-D + 100g Carbendazim + 1.5 Kg Urea in 100 litres of water at the earliest.
  3. After 15 days of above spraying in the orchards, carry out second spray of 1.5g GA3 + 1.5 kg Potassium nitrate in 100 litres of water.
  4. In acid lime orchards citrus canker occurs heavily due to rains and hailstorm. Pruning and destruction of infected twigs is advisable. Foliar spray with 180 g Copper oxychloride + 6g Streptocyline in 60 litres of water may be applied.
