Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), visited progressive farmers at Rangat, North & Middle Andaman today. These farmers are not only making a profit but also employing local people.

Dr. Pathak urged the youth to adopt scientific farming techniques and increase agri-entrepreneurs in the country. He also emphasized that farmers serve as role models for their villages in adopting scientific cultivation techniques.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, highlighted the need for convergence with local Government to promote sustainable agriculture.

Dr. V.B. Patel, Assistant Director General (Fruits & Plantation Crops) spoke about integrating spices as intercrop for additional income.

Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, reiterated the commitment of his Institute to improving the productivity of farmers.

The DG interacted with Shri. Nirmal Sammadhar of Nimbutala village, who uses a pond-based farming system for paddy, vegetables, poultry, and duckery. ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nimbudera provides training and technical guidance for fish breeding, scientific management, quality fish feed, and high-yielding paddy and vegetable varieties. Shri. Sammadhar creates job opportunities and earns a net income of Rs. 11 to 12 lakhs/year.

The Director General also interacted with Shri K. Muniyandi of Janakpur village, who uses a plantation-based cropping system with fruits and backyard poultry. He received quality planting material and technical guidance from ICAR-KVK, Nimbudera. Shri. Muniyandi earns about Rs. 2.4 lakhs from 450 to 500 fruit-bearing areca nut plants.

The officials and staffs of ICAR-KVK attended the programme.
