National seminar on soil and water symbiosis for sustainable agriculture Soil and water are the most vital key resources for sustainable agriculture and supporting life in the earth. Soil plays a pivotal role in tackling climate change as it captures and stores vast amounts of carbon and aids in carbon sequestration. It is estimated that 95 per cent of our food is directly or indirectly produced from the soils. Healthy soils produce healthy crops which in turn nourish people and animals. Indeed, soil quality is directly linked to food quality and quantity. Intensive agriculture, imbalanced fertilization, climate change, urbanization etc. has lead to vast degradation in soil quality and soil health. It is very much essential to conserve and maintain soil health to ensure global food security and to sustain life in the earth. In connection with the World Soil Day 2023 celebrations, Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Kerala Agricultural University is organizing a National Seminar on “Soil and Water Symbiosis for Sustainable Agriculture” under the following themes:
1. Soil Health & climate change
2. Water quality and sustainable agriculture
