Aligarh, June 28: The Sir Syed Education Society of North America (SSESNA), a non-profit organization based in the United States, has honoured 25 students and alumni from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with the prestigious Sir Syed Global Scholar Award (SSGSA) for the academic session 2023-24. This esteemed program received a large number of exceptional applications from a diverse range of faculties, including Arts, Commerce, Humanities, Law, Science, Medicine, Life Sciences, and Engineering & Technology. These applications underwent a meticulous evaluation and short-listing process.

The recipients of the SSGSA scholarship will not only receive comprehensive financial support but will also benefit from personalized mentors who will guide them through the process of applying for higher education abroad. Additionally, the SSGSA scholars will receive assistance for the required standardized tests such as GRE/GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS.

Mr. Mohd Sheikh and Mr. Sachin Gupta, former beneficiaries and current co-chairs of the SSGSA program, commended the high quality and competitiveness of AMU students. Despite facing financial limitations, the co-chairs expressed their gratitude to key individuals who contributed to the success of the SSGSA program, including the AMU administration and the present Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez Prof. M M  Sufyan Beg Principal ZHCET, and AMU PRO Mr Omar Peerzada.

Mr. Syed Ali Rizvi, an executive committee member of SSGSA from Boston, Massachusetts, USA, explained that the SSGSA Award aims to recognize and support exceptional students and alumni of AMU who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, research or work experience, internships, as well as involvement in curricular and extracurricular activities. The selection process involved eleven different panels comprising members of the SSGSA team from around the world, along with experts from academia and industry. The shortlisted candidates underwent rigorous assessments, and the final interview panel consisted of distinguished individuals from prestigious institutions.

In addition to financial support and personalized mentors, the SSGSA scholarship recipients will receive assistance for standardized tests and coverage of university application fees for up to five universities of their choice. SSESNA remains committed to supporting all applicants who did not secure the award by providing mentorship and guidance, ensuring they can continue pursuing their academic goals.
