A 21-day “Orientation Course-cum-Induction Training Programme,” organized by the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), concluded here today. As many as 23 newly recruited faculty members from different departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Regional Research Stations, Farm Advisory Service Centres and University Seed Farms of PAU attended the course. During the induction training, participants visited 10 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, three Regional Research Stations, six Farm Advisory Service Centres, and three Fruit Research Stations across Punjab. During these visits, participants interacted with outstation faculty and were acquainted with region specific crops and seed production besides their needs, challenges and strengths.
Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, who was the chief guest, congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the course. He hoped that all the participants would implement the learning from the course in their professional and personal life for effectively rendering their services as a teacher, researcher and extension personnel.
Dr Kiran Bains, Dean, College of Community Science, advised the participants to write and submit winning projects. She also motivated the participants to work hard to rise in their professional career.
Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta, Course Director, informed that sessions were conducted by experts from different departments of PAU, retired faculty and experts from other organizations. The course was divided into different sections like teaching, research, extension and human resource development, she told. Lectures on formulating instructional objectives, designing instructional framework, planning and selecting evaluation techniques were delivered to orient the participants regarding teaching, she added.
Dr Mandeep Sharma, Assistant Professor, welcomed the guests and the participants. She further said that interactive sessions on identification and prioritization of research areas besides writing winning research proposals were conducted. Practical sessions on rapport building with the farming community, technology dissemination techniques, use of print and mass media etc. were also held. Besides, participants were made aware of administrative rules, policies and service rules, she informed.
Dr Manjot Kaur, Assistant Professor, while proposing a vote of thanks, said that participants visited Skill Development Center, MS Randhawa Library and Communication Center of PAU to understand their functions in teaching, research and extension. Motivational techniques, balancing personal and professional life, communication and interpersonal relationships were some of the other areas related to human resource development, she added.
Dr Mehra Singh, Nanotechnologist (Physics); and Dr Parvinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, KVK, Samrala, shared the experiences of the programme and appreciated the efforts of the organizing team.
Later, certificates were distributed to all the participants.
