KVK, Palem organized an awareness cum Training on Best Management Practices in Cotton and Oil palm to Store managers of Coromandel Retail division at Seminar Hall, Soil Testing Lab, KVK Palem on 24.04.2024. The programme was chaired by Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Palem and emphasized on the Soil and nutrient management practices in cotton and stressed upon the location specific technologies (HDPS in cotton) to be adopted for the ensuing season in order to aim the assured higher yields of the cotton growing farmers. Dr. O. Shaila, SMS (Plant Protection) highlighted the Integrated pests and disease management, weather based sustainable approaches to be followed and need based & ETL based insecticides/fungicides application to avoid the crop losses.
Dr. A. Shankar, SMS (Hort.) emphasized on the best management practices in oil palm. By keeping the view of growing cultivation in the district, nutrient, pest and disease management strategies, intercrops to be grown in the juvenile oil palm orchards was explained in detail. Mr. K. Ramakrishna, SMS, (CP), explained the Weed management practices in cotton at various stages of the crop. Mrs. E. Jyoshna, SMS (Home Science), KVK, Palem created awareness on the Drudgery management in cotton and oil palm and role of women farmers in various farm activities and educated that need of nutritional uptake and dietary habits of the farming community. Dr. B. Rajashekhar, SMS, (Extension), KVK, Palem highlighted the Agriculture Market forecast. strategies in cotton and oil palm and their sources. Finally, there was an interaction session where all the queries were addressed by the experts. Sri. U. Govindachari, Zonal Trainer Coromandel Retail division has wrapped up the programme by his concluding remarks. In this training Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy, Programme Coordinator and team, KVK, Palem, Sri. U. Govindachari, Zonal Trainer Coromandel Retail division & 38 Store managers (Total 46 participants) were participated.
