The Inter-College Youth Festival concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) amidst gaiety and vitality. The high-spirited Punjabi folk dances giddha and bhangra electrified the atmosphere and won all admiration from the spectators. The College of Agriculture (COA) lifted the overall trophies in fine arts, literary, heritage, music and theatre events, while the College of Community Science (COCS) clinched the overall trophy in dance items.
Sardar Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Police Commissioner, Ludhiana, was the chief guest at the prize-distribution ceremony. He called for saving the youths from treading the perilous path of drug addiction and other social evils. “Imbibe good qualities, utilize your talent, be family as well as employment oriented, and render useful service to the society at large,” he urged the students.
In his presidential remarks, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, stated that the youth fest spoke high of the zeal and zest of the students. He said, “This University, since its inception, has been radiating knowledge, guiding the youths, providing them opportunities for excelling in creative endeavor’s, and equipping them better to face the pressing challenges of the contemporary times.”
Mrs Dhanpreet Kaur, DIG, Ludhiana range, who was the guest of honor, commended the participating students for the colorful display of cultural extravaganza.
A noted Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi captivated the audience with his mesmerizing voice.
Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, welcomed the dignitaries and the students, while Dr Vishal Bector, President of Dance, Drama and Music Club, proposed a vote of thanks.
Dr Jasiwnder Kaur Brar, Associate Director (Culture) and Mr Satvir Singh, Supervisor, Cultural Activities, coordinated the week-long programme.
In skit, College of Horticulture and Forestry (COHF), COA of Ballowal Saunkhri and COA, Ludhiana won the top three positions.
In lammi hek wale geet, COA, COCS, and College of Basic Sciences and Humanities (COBSH) bagged the top three spots.
In giddha, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAET), COCS and COA, Ludhiana earned the first three prizes.
In bhangra, COHF, COA of Ludhiana and COCS clinched the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
In mimicry, Pawan Kumar of COA, Ludhiana; Pratik Sharma of COHF and Juvraj of COAET bagged the top three prizes.
Abhishek Sharma of COA and Jasleen Kaur of COCS were declared as the Best Dancers in bhangra and giddha, respectively, while Jaspreet Kaur and Balihar Kaur of COA were adjudged as the Best Artist and the Best Singer, respectively. In literary items, Partik of COHF and Harmanjot of COA won the titles of the Best Poets, whereas Ishita of COAET and Gurvinder Singh of COBSH were declared as the Best Speakers. Tarun Kapoor and Harleen Kaur of COA earned the titles of the Best Debators in the category of for and against the motion, respectively. Besides, Harleen Kaur of COCS and Harshaan Singh of COHF were awarded Lt Triveni Cash Awards for emerging as the Best Athletes in the female and male category, respectively.
