ICAR- Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune signed an MoU with Swift Agro Chemicals & Nutrients Pvt. Ltd., Lonikand, Tal: Haveli, Dist: Pune, Maharashtra for commercialization of unique dwarf tuberose variety “Sahyadri Vaman”. M/s Swift Agro Chemicals & Nutrients Pvt. Ltd. is one of the leading producers of quality planting material of seasonal flowers in the country. Under the non-exclusive licensing of the variety M/s Swift Agro shall propagate and facilitate faster spread of the variety across the country. Sahyadri Vaman is dwarf variety released by ICAR-DFR, Pune for pot plant production with objective to bring the fragrance indoors. Presently local type tuberose is grown in pots for commercial sale by nurseries. But due to longer spike length the spike are prone to lodging which affects the quality of plants in nursery business. Sahyadri Vaman variety is dwarf variety and produces spikes that are less than 50.00 cm in length and florets opens till top. It is good multiplier that produces 10-12 bulbs for each bulb planted. The flowers are fragrant and last for 7-8 days on the plant.
