An Eight-day training course was organized for the tribal farmers of Odisha at ICARIIOR, Hyderabad during 11-18th March 2024. About 26 farmers under the Mega Lift Irrigation Project, Koraput attended the course.
During the inaugural session of the training course on 12.03.2024 Dr. R.K. Mathur, Director, ICAR-IIOR emphasized the need for crop diversification during rabi season under the lift irrigation project. He informed the participants the potential of oilseed crops in Odisha state in general and Koraput district in particular and urged them to explore the options of value addition in oilseed crops. The course involved field visits to ICAR-IIOR farms at Narkhoda and Rajendranagar, Hyderabad and other ICAR institutes viz., ICARIIMR and KVK farm under CRIDA and Apiculture Centre at PJTSAU.
The course covered broad areas such as role of FPOs in increasing oilseed production, technology for enhancing the productivity of oilseeds, seed quality maintenance in seed storage soil health management, nutritive value of oilseeds and access to quality seeds of oilseed crops.
During the 8 days training program, the farmers gained the knowledge on latest technologies related to Oilseed cultivation, pest disease management, adaption of climate change technologies related to the crops, and the post-harvest processing of the Oilseeds. The training course was concluded successfully on 18.03.2024 with remarks by the Chief Guest, Dr. R.K. Mathur, Director, ICAR-IIOR followed by the feedback session from the farmers. The training course was coordinated by Dr. K. Sankari Meena, Dr. H. P. Meena, Dr. M. Y. Dudhe, Dr. Praduman Yadav, Dr. K. Sakthivel and Dr. G.D. Satish Kumar.
