ICAR-IVRI organized a five days training programme on ‘Scientific Backyard Poultry Farming for entrepreneurship development among tribal under TSP programme during 18 -22 September 2023. A total of 20 farmers (18 female) actively participated in the training from Naugawa Thago village in Khatima Block, Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand. The inaugural session of training programme started with welcome address of chief guest Dr Rupasi Tiwari (Joint Director Extension Education) on 18th Sept, 2023. She welcomed the participants and briefed the participants about different aspects of poultry management under field conditions. She emphasized the importance of women taking on leadership roles in livestock production and management. Dr H R Meena, Head, Division of Extension Education in his address informed the participants about role and importance of scientific backyard poultry farming for enhancing livelihood and nutritional security of tribal.
During these five days training programme, a total of 13 lectures were organized for trainees on various aspects of scientific backyard poultry farming viz. Improved breeds for backyard poultry farming, poultry housing management, feeding management, health management, brooding management, integrated backyard poultry management, mobile apps on backyard poultry farming as well as information on several schemes and programmes on poultry farming. Trainees were also informed about how to form SHG and FPO in poultry sector and its importance in marketing of poultry products. Apart from these lectures, trainees were also visited to ICAR-Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly and at progressive farmer field.
Valedictory session of the training programme was organized on 22nd September, 2023 at ATIC committee room of ICAR-IVRI. Dr. Rupasi Tiwari, the Joint Director of Extension Education, graced the occasion and was overwhelmed by the large number of women participating in the training program. She also stressed that participants should effectively implement scientific backyard poultry farming in their area to generate sustainable livelihoods. Certificates were given to the participants at the end of the training program. Dr. Madan Singh, the coordinator of the training program, concluded the program with a vote of thanks.
