The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked pacts with MSA Bio-Energy Private Limited, Gujarat for commercialization of Paddy Straw based Biogas Plant made up of Mild Steel (M. S.) sheet (above the ground) technology and PAU fixed Dome Type Family size Biogas Plant having capacity from 1 m3/day to 25 m3/day and with NANO ADDMIX, Dist: Kolhapur, Maharashtra for commercialization of Paddy Straw based Biogas Plant made up of Mild Steel (M. S.) sheet (above the ground) technology. Dr. Gurjit Singh Mangat, Additional Director of Research (Agriculture), PAU, Ludhiana, Mr. Gaurav Verma, Representative of MSA Bio-Energy Private Limited, and Mr. Rajeev Pandey, Representative of NANO ADDMIX signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on behalf of their organizations. Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Additional Director of Research (Agriculture Engineering), PAU, Ludhiana was also present on this occasion.
Dr. Gurjit Singh Mangat, Additional Director of Research (Agriculture), PAU, congratulated Dr. Sarbjit Singh Sooch, Head-cum-Principal Scientist, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering for the commercialization of the technologies. Dr. Sooch said that paddy straw can be digested by anaerobic means for the production of biogas as a fuel for the kitchen as well as for power generation. The latest method of anaerobic digestion, i.e., dry fermentation of organic wastes can be carried out, which requires little labour and produces biogas for a period of three months. The digested material from such anaerobic digestion is quality manure ready for use in fields, he added.
Dr. Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, PAU stated that PAU technologies are promoting environmental and energy sustainability and actively engaging with various stakeholders through the process of commercialization. He stated that efforts are being made for fast paced transfer of technologies from lab to field. He informed that till date 46 MoAs have signed by PAU Ludhiana for Biogas Plant related technologies with various firms across India.
