The Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a medical welfare camp in the village Jandiali, district Ludhiana under the guidance of Dr Kiranjot Sidhu, Head of the Department. The camp aimed at checking the health status of the people, and guiding them about lifestyle diseases and importance of balanced diet. The health check-up camp was executed in collaboration with the team of doctors sent by CMO, Ludhiana. Diabetes and blood pressure screenings were key highlights of the camp, in which 80 farmers and farm women participated.
Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta enlightened the people about the correct food choices to prevent diseases like diabetes and blood pressure. She also impressed upon the villagers to include fresh vegetables and fruits from their kitchen gardens in their routine diet. Vegetable kits were also distributed to establish nutrition gardens at household level.
Mr Gurpreet Singh talked about the importance of including millets in daily diet by shedding light on different ways of including millets in the diet.
Dr Anjali Negi informed people about the web based decision support system on lifestyle diseases, developed by the department to manage diseases like hypertension, diabetes and obesity through diet and exercises.
Relevant literature published by PAU was also distributed for further reference and information.
Dr Gupta extended heartfelt gratitude to the team of dedicated doctors and the villagers for successful organization of the camp.
