The PAU—Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ropar, 17.01.2025 organized an In-Service Training on zoonotic diseases for the secretaries of Milkfed Societies to enhance health and safety standards in dairy farming and milk production. The training focused on raising awareness about zoonotic diseases—those transmitted from animals to humans—and equipping participants with the knowledge to prevent and manage these risks effectively.
Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director of KVK Ropar, highlighted the public health threat of zoonotic diseases and elaborated on their transmission pathways. He emphasized the importance of training dairy farmers and milk society members in best practices for disease prevention.
Dr Aparna, Associate Professor (Animal Science), provided insights into critical measures such as regular prophylactic vaccination, maintaining hygiene standards on dairy farms, conducting regular health check-ups for livestock, and ensuring proper handling and processing of milk. Participants were also trained to identify symptoms of zoonotic diseases and to implement necessary steps in the event of an outbreak.
Milkfed Society members received the training well, expressing gratitude for the valuable knowledge and practical resources shared during the session. The initiative reflects KVK Ropar’s commitment to ensuring public health and improving safety practices within the dairy industry.
Plans are underway to conduct similar training sessions regularly to sustain and enhance health and safety practices in the dairy sector.
