Under the proactive guidance of Punjab Agricultural University’s 12.07.2024 Director of Extension Education in Ludhiana, and the diligent oversight of the Deputy Director (Training) at PAU’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Bathinda, a specialized training camp titled “Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Cotton” was recently conducted in Manak Khana village. It aimed to equip 35 cotton farmers with essential knowledge for sustainable cultivation practices. The training program featured comprehensive lectures and practical sessions.

Dr Vinay Pathania, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), delivered an enlightening session on integrated pest and disease management strategies. His discourse emphasized effective control measures and underscored the importance of adopting sound agricultural practices and strategic marketing techniques. This empowered the farmers with the requisite skills to enhance both productivity and profitability in cotton farming.

A pivotal component of the training was a field visit, where farmers actively engaged in hands-on learning experiences. Practical skills such as survey methodologies and pest identification were demonstrated, providing invaluable insights into tackling prevalent agricultural challenges. Notably, demonstrations on the utilization of pheromone traps for early detection of pink bollworm were also conducted, further enriching the participants’ understanding.

The training garnered enthusiastic feedback from the attendees, who expressed deep appreciation for the practical knowledge gained. This successful event underscored PAU-KVK Bathinda’s commitment to advancing agricultural expertise among local farmers, fostering sustainable agricultural practices for a prosperous future.
