A farmer training camp was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Punjab Agricultural University, Kheri (Sangrur) at village Khanal Khurd on the care of livestock in winter. In which 38 farmers of the village participated.
Giving information on this occasion, Dr. Ajay Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), KVK, Mansa/Sangrur said that in addition to gaining muscle mass, animals have to be given feed/divided or more food in winter, because animals need more energy to maintain their body temperature in winter, which is obtained from proper diet. He said that a 5 kg milking buffalo and a 7 kg milking cow should be given 40 kg green fodder, 3 kg dry fodder (straw etc.), 2 kg feed and 50 grams of metal powder. Similarly, cows and buffaloes that give more milk should be given 40 to 50 kg of green fodder, 2-3 kg of dry fodder and for every two and a half kg of milk, one kg of feed should be given to cows and one kg of feed should be given to buffaloes for every two kg of milk. Also, 70 to 100 grams of metal powder should be given. Apart from this, he also shared information about the points to be considered to reduce the impact of cold winds in winter. He gave important information about protecting newborn calves/calves from cold.
Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Sangrur informed the farmer warriors about various extension activities and training programs of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He also told about the proper use of farm inputs in wheat and mustard and appealed to the farmers to refrain from using excessive fertilizers and pesticides.
At the end of the program, the farmers were provided with PAU’s agricultural literature, metal shavings, animal feed and bypass fat etc. The village Sarpanch S. Satnam Singh had a special contribution in the success of this camp.
