Village Chotian dated September 12, 2024 as per the guidelines of PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mr. Muktsar Sahib Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR, Attari Zone-1, Ludhiana A village level awareness camp was organized regarding proper management of paddy stubble at Block Gidarbaha. About 100 intelligent farmer heroes of the village participated in the camp. During this camp Dr. Karamjit Sharma, Associate Director (Training), K.V.K. Shri Muktsar Sahib enlightened the farmers about the negative effects of stubble burning and shared information with the farmers about various methods of proper management of stubble. He informed about stubble management and invited the farmers for effective use of natural resources and efficient management of crop residues to protect the environment for agriculture. He advised to adopt recommended technologies for paddy straw management.

During this camp Dr. Vivek Kumar, Assistant Professor (Crop Science) shared detailed information about successful cultivation of wheat in stubble fields. He discussed in detail about various machines like happy seeder, smart seeder, surface seeder, mulcher, seed drill etc. for efficient management of paddy stubble. He also informed the farmers about various precautions while cultivating the wheat crop to be sown with different machines.

Dr. Manjit Kaur, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) informed the farmers about the improvement of soil health and increase in crop production finance with proper management of stubble. Mentioning the benefits of stubble conservation in the fields, he said that it improves the physical properties of the land and also reduces the impact of bad water on the crop.

Dr. Sukhjinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Fruit Science) explained the importance of fruits and vegetables in the diet for human health and gave detailed information on methods of using straw in the cultivation of gardens, vegetables and mushrooms.

Dr. Vivek Sharma, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) while giving information about good feed for good milk production informed the farmers about cattle diseases and their prevention and also advised to use paddy straw as cattle feed. .

During the camp, Dr. Gurwinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Extension Education) thanked the farmers who came to the camp and invited the farmers to participate in the fairs organized by the Punjab Agricultural University. He encouraged the visiting farmers to read agricultural literature. The farmers participating in the camp asked questions regarding straw conservation and other agricultural issues and the experts answered those questions on the spot.
