A one day tour-cum-training programme on hill agriculture for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) trainee officers was organized at ICAR-Vivekanand Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (PARKAS), Hawalbagh today. Dr. Raghunandan Singh Tolia, Uttarakhand Academy of Administration, Nainital and Ms. Gauri Prabhat and Ms. Dikshita Joshi were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Laxmikant, Director, ICAR-VKAS, in his inaugural address highlighted the various activities of the Institute and the historic establishment of the Institute in Almora. The Director discussed in detail the current scenario, challenges and prospects of hill agriculture. Also, the trainees were trained and motivated to prepare projects for the development of farmers in various districts during their service.

Dr. Nirmal Kumar Hedau, Head of Crop Improvement Division, gave a presentation on “Crop Improvement Technologies for Increasing Productivity and Quality of Mountain Crops”. He informed about many improved crop varieties developed by the institute especially for mountain farmers, which can help farmers in increasing productivity and quality.

Dr. Brij Mohan Pandey, Head and Division Head of Crop Production Division, discussed various crop production technologies and post-harvest crop technologies available for farmers.

Dr. Krishna Kant Mishra, Head of Crop Protection Division, gave a presentation on “Crop Protection Technologies for Mountain Agriculture”.

IAS trainees enthusiastically visited various units such as beekeeping, mushroom production, agricultural machinery unit, Sri Ann (Millets) processing unit and water management area.
