A three-day (7 to 9 January) farmer training program on “Advanced cultivation of Sri Ann (Millets) crops” was organized at the experimental field, Hawalbagh of ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (VPKAS), Almora, which was sponsored by the Chief Agricultural Officer Office, Agriculture Department, Bageshwar (Uttarakhand) under the District Plan. The objective of the program was to make farmers aware of the advanced techniques of Sri Ann crops.

During this, the participants were given detailed information about the latest technologies related to Sri Ann, such as high yield seal varieties, advanced agronomic methods, value addition, crop protection and post-harvest processing through lectures and tours.

On the closing ceremony, along with certificates, seeds of improved varieties of Mandua (Ragi) and Chaulai (Ramdana) developed by the institute were also distributed to the trainees. The training coordinators also emphasized on the farmers to adopt the high yielding, early maturing and disease resistant varieties of Millet Thresher and Shri grain crops developed by the institute.

A total of 33 trainees including 9 women farmers from Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand participated in this training program.
