Palampur 10 October. Dr.D.K.Vatsa, Vice-Chancellor, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University  chaired a scientific advisory committee (SAC) meeting of   Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kukumseri (Lahaul & Spiti).

While appreciating the hardworking farmers of Lahaul & Spiti, he asked them to conserve traditional crops of the tribal areas as these are known for distinct characteristics. The University will help them to get Geographical Indicators (GI) for such crops. He also advised them to adopt farm mechanization and get information and knowledge about the new farm technology from KVK scientists. The Vice-Chancellor also asked the staff to keep their premises neat, clean and in a presentable manner. He also visited the exhibition installed by the KVK, experimental farm of KVK and University research station and interacted with farmers.

 Dr. Naveen Kumar, Director Extension Education elaborated on various extension education programmes and spoke on the  importance of fodder crops suitable for L & S. He asked farmers to grow university approved crop varieties only.

Dr.Ravindra Kumar, Dean, Dr G.C.Negi College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences discussed problems faced by the livestock keepers in tribal areas and suggested farmers to get in touch with KVK to resolve their problems.

Dr.Pankaj Chopra, Programme Coordinator, presented major achievements and future action plan of his KVK.

Besides district level officers and progressive farmer members, Drs PC Sharma, Chanderkanta, Ramesh Rana, Uttam Chandel, Radhikha Negi, Ashita Bisht and Shabnam Katoch were also present in the SAC meeting.
