KVK, Malyal organized “Kisan Mela cum Agricultural Exhibition” as part of the CICR Special Project on Cotton, “Targeting technologies to agro- ecological zones-Large scale demonstration of best practices to enhance cotton productivity’’ under NFSM (2023-24) at KVK, Malyal premises on 21-11-2023. The programme started with inauguration of agricultural exhibition by Dr. R. Uma Reddy, ADR, RARS, Warangal and Smt. Dr. I. Swarna latha, ADE, PJTSAU, Hyderabad. Later the dignitaries visited all the stalls. Sri. B. Kranthi Kumar, SMS (Crop Production) invited all the guests on to the dais. Dr. S. Malathi, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Malyal explained the significance of the programme, explained about, ICAR-CICR Special Project on cotton objectives & importance of high density cotton in light soils in the district. Few farmers who had taken up cotton under HDPS during 2023-24 shared their experience with the technology and gave positive feedback. Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, CTZ, RARS, Warangal acted as Chief Guest for the programme and addressed the gathering. He remarked that farmers should aim at increasing their net income levels rather than mere yield levels. Cotton growing farmers should follow HDPS cotton in the district, to reduce cost and incidence of pink boll worm, and to get prepared for future mechanized harvesting. Dr. I. Swarnalatha, Assistant Director of Extension, PJTSAU acted as special guest for the Programme. In her address she pointed that, CICR Special Project on Cotton under NFSM (2023-24) is being implemented in the state through large demonstrations. Farmers of Mahabubabad district should utilize the project and take up cotton in HDPS to get benefits of the technology. Dr. G. Veeranna, Principal Scientist (Cotton), RARS, Warangal explained about concept of HDPS Cotton, sowing time, machine sowing through pneumatic planter, importance of timely application of growth regulator. Dr. G. Venkanna, Principal Scientist (Pl.Br), RARS, Warangal explained about paddy varieties suitable for Yasangi cultivation and sowing time. Sri. K. Bhasker, Scientist (Pl. Br.) & Head, HRS, Malyal also explained about integrated management practices in mango. Dr. G. Padmaja, Scientist (Plant Pathology), RARS, Warangal explained about different pulses varieties suitable for rabi and best management practices in pulses and chili. Smt. B. Madhavi, Scientist (Agronomy), RARS, Warangal explained about measures for blast management. Sri. M. Laxmi Narayana, DAO i/c, Mahabubabad district, spoke about the cropped area of cotton in the district and prospects of HDPS cotton in the district. In this programme, KVK Scientists- Dr. N. Kishore Kumar, SMS (Extension), Dr. E. Rambabu, SMS (Horticulture), Smt. D. Usha Sri, SMS (Agromet); Sri A.Prashanth Kumar, Scientist (Pl.path.), HRS, Malyal; Department officers- Sri K. Shobhan Babu, ADA, Maripeda, Sri N.Ravindhar, MAO, Nellikuduru, 29 AEOs; 42 RAWEP students, 02 young professionals of the project and 611 farmers participated in the programme on this occasion. On this occasion 17 stalls on different agriculture techniques and products were showcased for the benefit of participant farmers. Also, a brouture on HDPS Cotton and a pamphlet on “Management practices in High Density Planting in Cotton” were released by the dignitaries.
