Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur, organized an impactful event at village Neela Naloya, hosting an awareness camp and chaupal charcha, focused on natural farming and strengthening self-help groups. The gathering, held on 19-11-2023, was recorded by DD Kisan Channel from Doordarshan, New Delhi.
Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Hoshiarpur, delved into the district’s current scenario of natural farming. His discussion emphasized the critical need to embrace natural agriculture in today’s context. Dr Bons shed light on KVK’s initiatives promoting natural farming, highlighting their successful two-year-long execution involving awareness camps, training, and demonstrations across the district. Additionally, he elaborated on various schemes dedicated to bolstering self-help groups.
Experts from KVK Hoshiarpur, Dr Ajaib Singh (Assistant Professor in Agricultural Engineering) and Dr Prabhjot Kaur (Assistant Professor in Plant Protection), shared invaluable insights during the camp. They discussed aspects of value addition, agricultural produce processing, and the extensive support facilities provided by KVK, catering to the technical needs and advancement of self-help groups.
The event witnessed vibrant discussions encompassing key principles and practices of natural farming, sharing success stories, addressing challenges, identifying bottlenecks, and exploring the abundant opportunities of natural agriculture. The engagement involved participation from natural and progressive farmers alongside dedicated farm women of the district.
Sh Narinder Singh, President of the Innovative Farmers Association (Regd.), Hoshiarpur outlined the association’s decade-long commitment to exclusive natural farming. He highlighted the collaborative support from the district administration, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, and KVK Hoshiarpur, particularly in marketing natural farmers’ produce through ATMA Kisan Hut, the weekly Safe Food Mandi at Roshan Ground, Hoshiarpur, and various camps and melas.
Adding depth to the event, self-help groups, including Mother Teresa SHG, Neela Naloya Brothers from village Neela Naloya, and Sandhya SHG from village Maili, showcased an array of products featuring millets, organic maize flour, namkeen, seasonal pickles, and chutneys, demonstrating their diverse offerings.
Sh Tarsem Singh, an esteemed and award-winning natural farmer from village Neela Naloya, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the experts, farmers, farm women, and DD Kisan for orchestrating and contributing to the success of the event hosted in his fields.
