ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow organized “Capacity Development, Coordination, Technology Demonstration and Fish Input Distribution Programme” under SCSP component of ICAR’s NICRA Project on 2-3 December, 2024 at Shasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra (SSKVK), Arapanch Sonarpur. The programme focused on technical empowerment of farmers and the Government’s initiative to ‘doubling the farmers’ income’.

The Chief Guest, Swami Shivpuran and Ji Maharaj (Assistant Administrative Head, RDMM Faculty Centre and Vice President, SSKVK, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Belur Math, Howrah) addressed the beneficiary fish farmers of Scheduled Castes. He called upon them to contribute towards the welfare of the society by making good use of the technology and inputs provided by the Institute.

Dr. Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director, National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBFGR), Lucknow presided over the programme. He highlighted the new research and technological developments in the aquaculture sector and emphasized on the promotion of small and endemic fish species by the beneficiary farmers. He underlined the role of fish farmers in the conservation of fish biodiversity. The Director also informed the farmers about the importance of new breeding techniques and fish conservation, which would boost their business.

During the programme, more than 100 fish farmers from scheduled castes were given information on fish disease reporting techniques and distributed equipment’s like cast net, ice box, fish feed, fish seed, and aluminum pots to help them in their business.

Dr. Swamik Das, Additional Director, West Bengal Fisheries Department; Dr. T.K. Ghoshal, CIFFE Kolkata Centre Incharge; Dr. Swagat Ghosh, Head KVK, SSKVK; and Dr. Bashir, Dr. Aditya, Dr. Vikas Sahu and Dr. Amit Bisht from ICAR-NBFGR were present in the programme.
