The ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar conducted the First Follow up meeting of the All India State Animal Husbandry Directors Interface Meet-2025 with 26 states and 5 Union territories on 7 th January, 2025.
The inaugural session commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Triveni Dutt, the Hon’ble Director of IVRI, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prof. SPS Baghel Ji for his participation and encouragement during the meeting. Addressing the participants, Dr. Dutt highlighted the significant contributions of IVRI in combating and eradicating various livestock diseases. He emphasized the institute’s extensive facilities and its commitment to preserving and advancing the country’s livestock resources. Dr. Dutt shared the recent recognition of the Chaugharka breed of sheep as another noteworthy contribution by IVRI. He also detailed the educational initiatives undertaken by the Deemed University under the New Education Policy, which include Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programs, vocational and value-added courses, in addition to the ongoing master’s and doctoral degree programs. These efforts aim to provide continuous veterinary education for field veterinarians and other professionals in animal husbandry. Highlighting the accomplishments of IVRI’s distinguished alumni, Dr. Dutt mentioned that many serve as directors of ICAR institutes, lead research organizations globally, contribute as civil servants, and head multinational companies in India and abroad. He further elaborated on IVRI’s development of diverse technologies and their pivotal role in eradicating livestock diseases such as Rinderpest (RP), Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP), African Horse Sickness (AHS), and Dourine. Dr. Dutt also emphasized IVRI’s contributions to the National Animal Disease Control Program (NADCP) through vaccine development, testing, and providing seed cultures for vaccine production. He highlighted IVRI’s entrepreneurship initiatives, which have trained and funded over 35 start-ups and supported more than 150 entrepreneurs. Dr. Dutt expressed his gratitude to the Directors of various State Animal Husbandry Departments for their participation and assured them that IVRI would address their requirements through its dedicated research, education, and extension activities The technical session I chaired by Dr. S.K. Singh, Joint Director (Research) and co-chaired by Dr S.K. Mendiratta, Joint Director (Academic), ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar. In this session, a total of five lectures were delivered by learned experts from ICAR-IVRI on various issues faced in the field practice viz. Antimicrobial Resistance in livestock, Transboundary Animal Discases, Innovative Alternative Feed Resources, New Generation Technologies in Animal Reproduction and Technology Portfolio of IVRI.
The technical session II began with a welcome address by Dr Rupasi Tiwari, Joint Director (Extension Education), ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar and Chairperson of the session. She appraised the house on the details of participants who registered for the interface meeting, mandate of the meeting as well as expectations of participants. The ATRs on researchable issues, training requirements and on the establishment of different laboratories and queries from the first interface meet of the All India State Animal Husbandry Directors Interface Meet held at ICAR-IVRI on 23rd September, 2023 were presented in detail. For the follow-up meeting, participants from twenty six states and five union territories registered. Specific assistance from IVRI in areas such as short-term courses and technical support for diagnostic tools, disease management, and sustainable livestock production; support R&D on vaccines, disease diagnosis, and emerging diseases like LSD, BT, and Foot Rot; Training, workshops, and exposure trips for veterinarians, farmers, and paravets; collaborate on breed improvement, nutrition, and conservation efforts for species like Siri cattle and local livestock; offer technical assistance for policy formation and field issues and development of diagnostic kits/tools and improve veterinary practices through innovation.
The program concluded with closing remarks by Dr Triveni Dutt who thanked the organizers for successful organization of the event. Dr Bablu Kumar, Incharge, ITMU proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries and expert for their time and efforts in the event.
