With a goal of expanding sustainable lifestyle practices in the Eastern region of India, ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER) organized a tree plantation event under Global Campaign # ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ # ‘Plant4 Mother’ in the farmers’ fields in Sangrampur village under Bikram block of Patna district on September 05, 2024 under the leadership of Dr. Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna.
In the Mega event, a total of 178 farmers participated from Sangrampur and nearby villages. The Director in his key note address created awareness among the participating farmers on the grueling effect of climate change and the need for mitigation and the role of trees in enhancing ecosystem services, rural livelihood, soil and water conservation, and enriched nutrition. He also emphasized the farmers to ensure safety of trees in order to safeguard our mother planet and future generations. He enlisted the previous efforts of the institute on these lines, along with its Research Centre in Ranchi, KVKs Buxar and Ramgarh, in which more than 600 tree plants were planted .on August 29, 2024.
During the programme, the farmers were provided with around 1230 tree plants of Mahogany, Teak, Mango, Jack fruit, Amla, Lemon etc. Further, the team of scientists themselves planted the tree plants in few farmers’ fields and interacted with the farmers for planting and maintaining the trees. In addition to tree plantations, the farmers had a fruitful discussion with the scientists of the institute in which they had cleared their doubts in the integrated farming systems.
Apart from the Director, the Heads of various divisions Dr. A. Upadhyaya, Dr Kamal Sarma, Dr Ujjwal Kumar and Dr Sanjeev Kumar, and more than 25 scientists, technical officers and support staffs participated in the event. Dr PC Chandran, Principal Scientist, DLFM, and Dr Abhishek Kumar, Scientist, DCR coordinated the programme. The event ended with the vote of thanks by Shri Rajinish Sharma, an enthusiastic farmer from the village.
