With the commencement of March, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is gearing up to hold seven Kisan Melas across the state. Themed as “Kheti Naal Saahaaik Dhanda, Parivaar Sukhi Munafa Changa,” the melas will promote blissful family life via enhanced income through integration of subsidiary occupations with agriculture.

Sharing the itinerary, Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, informed that the Kisan Melas are set to take off from March 5 at Nag Kalan Jahangir, Amritsar followed by the melas at Ballowal Saunkhri on March 7 and Bathinda on March 12. The two-day on-campus Kisan Mela will be held at PAU, Ludhiana on March 14 and 15, while the melas at Faridkot, Gurdaspur and Patiala districts will be held on March 18, 20 and 22, respectively, he told.

Referring to the melas as encyclopedia of agriculture and family-oriented fairs, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, has called upon the farmers of Punjab and adjoining states to participate in these melas along with their families. The industrious farmers of Punjab have always been a source of strength and stimulation for PAU since its inception, he observed, adding that PAU has equally extended rock-solid support to the agriculture community in terms of varietal and technology development as well as timely solutions to their agri-issues.

“Field demonstrations, stalls and exhibitions, sale of improved variety seeds and farm literature, agro-industrial exhibition, farm produce and community science competitions, and awards to the progressive farmers will be the focal points of the melas,” informed Dr Bhullar.
