Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, organized an Awareness Camp on Natural Farming on November 15, 2023, at its campus. At the same time, live webcast of online release of the 15th instalment of PM-KISAN Scheme by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India was also organized.
While welcoming the farmers and farm women in the camp, Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur, spoke on the importance and need of natural farming in the present day. He divulged the basic principles and practical aspects of natural farming. Natural farming is an agro-ecology based diversified farming system, which integrates crops, trees and livestock, allowing functional biodiversity and avoiding harmful effects of chemical farming on soil and human health, added Dr Bons. He also informed that KVK Hoshiarpur, is regularly organizing awareness camps, demonstrations and trainings on natural farming in the district. Besides this, Innovative Farmers Association (Regd.), Hoshiarpur, is working hard for the promotion of natural farming for the last many years in the district and its natural farming products are very much in demand by the consumers.
Dr Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Sciences), while addressing the gathering said that cow dung based natural farming plays a major role in adding to soil quality. He also shared important tips regarding winter management of dairy animals.
Dr Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) shared information on insect pests and disease control by adopting various indigenous techniques and by using the extracts of medicinal plants.
Dr Sukhwinder Singh Aulakh, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) discussed protected cultivation of vegetables. Later, he also proposed a formal vote of thanks to the participating farmers and farm women, exhorting them to stay connected to the activities of the KVK, and keep themselves abreast of recent developments.
