A total of 167 farmers and farm women attended the monthly training camp of PAU Kisan Club, organised at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Agriculture and home science experts explained weed management in rabi crops, importance of micronutrients, disease control in crops, goat farming for additional income, bioenzymes – an organic cleanser, and preparation of soups from seasonal vegetables.

Dr Kuldeep Singh, Programme Associate Director and Head, Department of Extension Education, while welcoming the farmers, advised them to motivate the youths of their villages to adopt allied agri-enterprises for sustaining their social as well as economic livelihood.

While welcoming farm women, Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), said that self-employability was a way to financial independence. It was vital for the rural women to come out of their shells, obtain trainings from PAU and start their own ventures for economic prosperity, she added.

Resource persons included Dr Gulshan Mahajan, Dr Vivek Sharma, Dr MS Hunjan, Dr Ranjit Singh, Dr Urmila Gupta, Dr Neerja Singla, and Dr Prerna Kapila.

Mr Manpreet Grewal, President of the club and Ms Kanwaljit Kaur from women’s wing of the club, proposed a vote of thanks.

The programme was held under the directions of Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication and coordinated by Dr Lavleesh Garg, Extension Scientist.
