A training programme on “Improved Production Technologies in Vegetable Crops of ICAR-IIHR” was conducted on 12 October 2026 at 11:00 AM at Dalasanuru under the Farmers FIRST Project. Dr. B. Balakrishna, Principal Scientist; Dr. D. C. Manjunath Gowda, Senior Scientist; and Dr. Ramya H. R., Scientist, ICAR-IIHR, along with the village key person, Sri L. Gopalkrishna, Ex-Chairman, Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Limited (India)were present. Approximately 20 farm women participated in the programme along with the 35 other farmers of the village. Dr. Ramya H. R. introduced ICAR-IIHR and briefed the participants on the institute’s activities and contributions to horticultural development. Dr. B. Balakrishna explained the improved varieties developed by ICAR-IIHR, recommended production practices for vegetable crops, and the uses of Arka Mango Special, Arka Vegetable Special, and Arka Neem Soap. Dr. D. C. Manjunath Gowda elaborated on improved production technologies for various vegetable crops, highlighting the importance of adopting scientific cultivation practices to improve crop growth, productivity, and quality.
An interactive session was organised between the scientists and farmers to discuss crop-related problems and provide suitable technical solutions. Sri K. Gopalkrishna Gowda delivered the concluding remarks, summarising the key points and encouraging farmers to adopt improved production practices for better crop productivity and sustainable farming.
Following the training, Arka Vegetable Special, Arka Mango Special, Arka Neem Soap, and vegetable seed kits were distributed to the participants to encourage the adoption of improved horticultural technologies.
Subsequently, a diagnostic field visit was conducted to farmers’ fields to assess crop conditions, identify cultivation-related problems, and provide appropriate technical guidance. The visit enabled direct interaction with farmers and helped address field-level challenges through suitable scientific recommendations.
The programme enhanced farmers awareness of improved vegetable production technologies, facilitated the dissemination of ICAR-IIHR technologies and inputs, and strengthened farmer–scientist interactions. It also encouraged the adoption of scientific agricultural practices to improve productivity and support sustainable livelihoods.
