Training Program on Carbon stock estimation under natural farming systems organized on 21st September 2026

An awareness training program on “Carbon stock estimation and opportunities for carbon crediting in natural farming ecosystems” was organized by ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and ICAR-KVK, Hirehalli in association with School of Natural Farming, Tumkur, under the project ‘Assessing Ecosystem Service Gains in Fruit-Based Natural Farming Systems in South Indian Agroecosystems’ on 21 September 2026. About 25 natural farming practitioners attended the program. During the program, Dr. T.R. Rupa, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIHR briefed the farmers about the importance of perennial tree species in carbon sequestration and combating global warming issues. The methodology for measurement of biomass and parameters for the estimation of soil carbon stock (SCS) under natural farming systems was elaborated. Dr. M. Sankaran, Head, Division of Fruit Crops, spoke on the opportunities of carbon crediting in the existing and new natural farms for monitization to the farmers, with special emphasis to perennial fruit and forest trees. During the event, Dr. N. Longanandhan, Head, ICAR-KVK spoke about the importance of natural farming and extending assistance in soil analysis for further facilitation in carbon stock estimation to the practising farmers. Dr. H. Manjunath, Director, School of Natural Farming emphasized on immediate initiation of Carbon stock estimation in the natural farms associated with the school of natural farming at Tumkur, Karnataka
