ICAR IIHR, CHES Chettalli organized Avocado Field Day cum Training on 7 August 2026

ICAR-IIHR, Central Horticultural Experiment Station, Chettalli and ICAR–JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, jointly organized “Avocado Field Day-cum-Training Programme” 7th August 2026 at farmer’s field Kuppegala Village and KVK, Suttur, respectively. The programme was organized as a part of the National Horticulture Day celebration with the objective of creating awareness among farmers and stakeholders about scientific avocado cultivation, improved varieties, propagation and nursery management practices and also to showcase the performance of avocado varieties Arka Supreme and Arka Coorg Ravi in Framers field. The programme was graced by Dr. B.N. Gnanesh, Sr. Scientist & Head, ICAR-JSS, KVK, Suttur, Dr. Muralidhara B. M., Senior Scientist and Head, CHES, Chettalli, Dr. Vishakanta, Retired Joint Director (Agriculture), Mysuru, Dr. Ravindra K. R., Secretary, IAT, Mysuru  and S mt. Sunanda, Progressive Avocado Farmer.

During technical session Dr. Muralidhara B. M., Senior Scientist and Head, CHES, Chettalli delivered a talk on “Scientific Cultivation of Avocado” and Dr. Nayan Deepak G., Senior Scientist (Fruit Science), CHES, Chettalli delivered talk on “Avocado Plant Propagation and Nursery Management”. A total of 150 participants viz., farmers, departmental officials, scientists were attended the programme.

This was followed by a field day on avocado varieties Arka Supreme and Arka Coorg Ravi was organized in framers’ field at Kuppegala Village, Mysuru District. where the performance of Arka Supreme and Arka Coorg Ravi avocado varieties was demonstrated. Dr. Muralidhara explained the performance and special traits of avocado varieties Arka Supreme and Arka Coorg Ravi, and their scientific management practices. Dr. Nayan Deepak G. demonstrated the canopy management practices and the identification of major pests and diseases in avocado. The field visit enabled the participating farmers to directly observe the performance of the varieties under local growing conditions. Scientists, horticulture officials and farmers interacted at the field and discussed various aspects of avocado cultivation, including varietal performance, plant propagation, nursery management and scientific orchard management. The successful performance of Arka Supreme and Arka Coorg Ravi at the farmer’s field generated considerable interest among the participating farmers and stakeholders regarding the adoption of improved avocado varieties and scientific production practices.
