The ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR), Bengaluru, celebrated PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas and Khet Bachao Abhiyan on 30th October 2026 in the presence of Smt. Shobha Karandlaje, Hon’ble Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The programme coincided with the release of the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi from Banaskantha, Gujarat. Under this instalment, more than ₹18,690 crore was transferred directly to the bank accounts of over 9.34 crore farmers across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), reaffirming the commitment to farmers' welfare and agricultural prosperity.
The programme at ICAR-IIHR commenced with a tree plantation activity at the Institute's nursery by the Hon’ble Minister, followed by the inaugural session at the Institute's auditorium. The live telecast of the PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas and the release of the 24th instalment was organised for farmers, scientists and other participants.
As part of the programme, agricultural inputs were distributed to progressive farmers, recognising their contribution to agricultural development and encouraging the adoption of improved farming practices.
Farmers-Scientists Interaction under Khet Bachao Abhiyan
A Farmers-Scientists Interaction Meet was organised under Khet Bachao Abhiyan to facilitate direct engagement between farmers and ICAR-IIHR scientists and disseminate practical, science-based recommendations for sustainable agriculture and horticulture.
The interaction provided an opportunity for farmers to engage directly with scientists, seek technical guidance and understand the relevance of research-based interventions in addressing field-level agricultural challenges.
Through the celebration of PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas and Khet Bachao Abhiyan, ICAR-IIHR reaffirmed its commitment to supporting farmers through scientific research, technology dissemination and capacity building. The programme underscored the importance of integrating farmers' welfare initiatives with science-led interventions for sustainable agricultural and horticultural development.
