ICAR IIHR Bengaluru organizes a training programme on "Improved Technologies and Input distribution" under TSP Programme on 18 August 2026

An off-campus training-cum-input distribution programme under TSP programme of ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru was organised at Naganayakanahalli village of Bangalore south district on 18 August 2026. Twenty-five (23 male and 2 female) registered farmers took part in the training programme. The objective of the training programme was to sensitize the farmers on improved technologies of ICAR-IIHR. Dr. Poornima K.N., scientist in the Division of Basic Sciences, gave a brief overview of ICAR-IIHR. She delivered a lecture on improved varieties and improved production technologies in fruit crops of ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and its value addition. She also educated the farmers about the ongoing activities of ICAR-IIHR like mushroom cultivation, post-harvest value addition in vegetable and fruit crops. Dr. Radha T.K., Senior Scientist, Division of Natural Resource Management delivered a detailed lecture on soil health management practices, focusing on the role of organic matter, compost, and biological inputs in maintaining soil fertility. She explained the benefits and application methods of inputs such as Vegetable Special and Arka Microbial Consortium (AMC) for improving crop growth and managing pests in an eco-friendly manner. Dr. Jayanthimala B.R., Senior Scientist, Division of Crop Protection, enlightened the farmers about pest management in fruit and vegetable crops. She explained about the used use of organic pesticides such as neem pellets and pongamia soap and also explained the use of pheromone traps in the field. She also explained about the safety precautions to be taken by farmers during sprays. Dr. Vidhyashri, AHO and Dr. Shankar H.R., Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture (ZP), Kengeri from state horticulture department also participated in the program. We also had a farmer interaction session and at the end of the programme, various inputs such as Arka seed kit, neem pellets, pongamia soap, AMC, vegetable special and planting material of Jamun and Jackfruit (var. Siddu grafted plants) were distributed to the participating farmers to facilitate immediate adoption of the demonstrated technologies and strengthen sustainable farming practices in the village.
