Workshop on High Profits through Avocado and Mucuna Cultivation organized at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru on 28-30 August 2026 Primary tabs

Dr. Hima Bindu, Retired Principal Scientist, and Dr. M. Sankaran, Head and Principal Scientist, Division of Fruit Crops, ICAR–IIHR graced the event and shared their expertise. The technical deliberations focused on the cultivation potential of avocado as a high-value fruit crop, covering important aspects from planting and crop management to scientific production practices. The workshop also highlighted the importance of Mucuna cultivation, particularly its role in soil fertility improvement, biomass production and sustainable crop productivity. The interactive programme enabled farmers to raise field-level questions and receive direct scientific guidance from ICAR–IIHR experts. The workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building and networking, with the objective of promoting suitable high-value horticultural enterprises and strengthening farmers’ access to scientific technologies.

Role of the Tamil Nadu Tribal Welfare Department was appreciated on the occasion in recognition of its valuable contributions and dedicated efforts towards the welfare and development of tribal communities.

The programme concluded with an encouraging response from the participants, who appreciated the practical orientation and direct interaction with the scientists.

Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR–IIHR, served as the Course Coordinator and Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientist also coordinated the programme and contributed to the smooth conduct of the technical sessions and farmer interactions.
