ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized a Khet Bachao Abhiyan-cum-Field Day on Nutri-Hormonal Therapy for the Management of Repeat Breeding in Dairy Cows at Ibrampur village, Pernem, in collaboration with ATMA North Goa, the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Goa, Goa State Cooperative Bank, Shri Sateri Cooperative Dairy Society and Shri Rashtroli Self-Help Group, Ibrampur. The programme aimed to promote sustainable agriculture, improve dairy productivity and strengthen farmers’ livelihoods through the effective integration of crop and livestock enterprises.

The objectives and significance of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan were highlighted, emphasizing soil health conservation, balanced and soil-test-based fertilizer application, and increased use of organic manures. Farmers were also informed about various government schemes and subsidies promoting sustainable agriculture and enhanced productivity.

Scientific methods for preventing repeat breeding in crossbred cows through improved reproductive and nutritional management were discussed. The ICAR-CCARI-recommended nutri-hormonal therapy, which recorded approximately 66% conception rates across several dairy farms in Ibrampur, was highlighted.

The importance of integrated crop-livestock farming, recycling farm resources, and using cattle dung, urine, vermicompost, and farmyard waste to improve soil fertility and reduce chemical fertilizer use was emphasized.

Farmers were briefed on banking facilities and institutional credit schemes to support agricultural and dairy farming activities. A successful experience in dairy farming and vermicomposting demonstrated how organic farm waste can be converted into nutrient-rich manure, reduce waste, improve soil health, and generate additional income.

As part of the programme, hand-operated pump sprayers and vermicompost were distributed to farmers by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Goa, to encourage sustainable crop production and improved farm management practices.

A total of 47 participants, including 40 farmers (21 men and 19 women) and seven officials, attended the programme.
