ICAR KVK Dimapur launched the Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026 Rabi campaign at Chumoukedima Village on 22nd October 2026 to promote soil health, encourage sustainable agricultural practices and create awareness among farmers about the importance of conserving soil resources for long-term agricultural productivity. The campaign will continue until 30th November 2026, with a focus on promoting scientific soil management practices and environmentally sustainable farming methods.
During the programme, Smt. Moainla Pongen, District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Chumoukedima, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices in maintaining soil fertility and ensuring the long-term productivity of agricultural land. She emphasized the need to adopt appropriate soil management measures and eco-friendly farming practices to conserve soil resources and support sustainable agricultural development.
As part of the initiative, vermibags and garden tools were distributed to farmers to encourage vermicomposting and promote the recycling of organic waste into nutrient-rich manure. Vermicomposting is an effective method of converting biodegradable farm and household waste into valuable organic manure, which helps improve soil structure, enhance nutrient availability and support soil health when integrated into appropriate nutrient management practices.
A key highlight of the programme was the inauguration of the Vermicompost Model Village at Chumoukedima Village by KVK Dimapur, marking an important step towards promoting vermicomposting as a practical and sustainable approach to soil health management.
The programme was also attended by Dr. Marneni Divya Sree, SMS (Agricultural Extension), KVK Dimapur; Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS (Home Science), KVK Dimapur; and Dr. Harendra Verma, Scientist, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, who participated in the initiative to promote awareness of sustainable agricultural practices and soil health management.
