The Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS), in association with ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, successfully organized a one-day hybrid workshop on ‘International Research Opportunities for Young Indian Agricultural Researchers’ on 26 October 2026 at DNB Hall, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Naseeb Singh, along with co-organizers Dr. Devideen Yadav and Dr. Mahak Singh. The programme aimed to create awareness among students and young researchers about international higher education, research fellowships, funding opportunities, and scientific career development. It received an enthusiastic response, with approximately 50 participants attending physically and online attendance reaching up to 62.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. B. P. Singh, Director (In-charge), Dr. Pankaj Baiswar, Head, Division of Crop Sciences, and Dr. V. K. Verma, Principal Scientist (Horticulture). Dr. Singh appreciated the initiative and emphasized the importance of international exposure and scientific collaborations in strengthening the research capabilities of young scientists. Dr. Baiswar highlighted the significance of academic preparedness and mentorship, while Dr. Verma encouraged students to explore emerging interdisciplinary research opportunities.
The workshop featured five expert lectures covering diverse aspects of international research careers. Er. Navya Tejaswani discussed overseas graduate studies, funding opportunities, and application strategies. Dr. Simardeep Kaur provided practical guidance on preparing competitive academic CVs, statements of purpose, and Ph.D./postdoctoral applications. Dr. Devideen Yadav highlighted international research opportunities in natural resource management, soil, and crop sciences. Dr. Naseeb Singh discussed emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, precision agriculture, robotics, and smart agricultural technologies, including strategies for identifying funded research positions. Dr. Mahak Singh presented international postdoctoral opportunities in animal, veterinary, and allied sciences.
The sessions were followed by interactive discussions, during which students raised questions regarding scholarships, research positions, supervisor selection, and application procedures. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Simardeep Kaur. The workshop provided a valuable platform for connecting young agricultural researchers with international research opportunities and encouraging them to pursue advanced scientific training and global collaborations.
