Amidst changing season with nights becoming colder and days pleasant, the entomologists of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have advised the beekeepers to take special care of honey bees. As many as 22 beekeepers attended the monthly training camp of Progressive Beekeepers’ Association (PBKA), held under the guidance of Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication, and Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education.
Principal Entomologist Dr Jaspal Singh suggested regular monitoring of honey bees, their extra care in winters, and adoption of recommended technologies for their management in winter season. Loaded with several nutritional and health benefits as well as a replacement for sugar, honey’s demand has seen a spurt in the market, he observed. Further, Dr Singh underscored the maintenance of quality of honey by issuing a strict warning against its adulteration.
Dr Vikas Kumar, an expert from the Department of Food Science and Technology, demonstrated the making of amla murabba and candy using honey.
Jagtar Singh, Secretary, PBKA, welcomed the members of the association, while JS Sohi, President of PBKA, deliberated upon the activities of the association and proposed a vote of thanks. Varinder Singh from Communication Centre coordinated the programme.
